Can a latte art pitcher with a non-stick coating have a laser logo?

Can a latte art pitcher with a non-stick coating have a laser logo?

The non-stick coating is made of PTFE/Teflon. From a laser-engraving standpoint, yes, it is possible. The laser machine ablates the surface material to reveal the logo design.

However, from a food-contact perspective, we do not recommend laser-engraving logos on the non-stick coating. This is because once the laser ablates the surface material, the integrity of the PTFE/Teflon coating is compromised. The damaged non-stick coating breaks down into tiny particles, which can easily be transferred into food.

If laser logo is not an option, can we do colored logo printing for the milk steaming jug?

Theoretically yes, but practically we do not recommend it.

PTFE/Teflon is a non-stick plastic film that is bonded to the stainless steel surface through a special high-temperature process. Regular color printing is done at temperatures lower than the baking temperature of the non-stick coating, so the printed logo will fade or be washed off after just a few uses.

What if we adjust the process—print the colored logo first, before the non-stick coating is sprayed, and then apply the coating and bake at high temperature?

Theoretically possible, but in practice, the colored logo will be altered by the high temperature.

So does that mean we can’t have a logo for the milk steaming pitcher if we use a non-stick coating?

There is another commonly used process that solves this.

Through an embossing (relief) process, the logo is pressed into the surface of the pitcher, then colored, and then the non-stick coating is applied on top.

The only downside is that the logo may be too prominent.
